Cnidoscolus aconitifolius, commonly known as Chaya or Tree Spinach.

Chaya is traditionally eaten by boiling the leaves, stem tips and shoots for about 20 minutes. It is important to note that some varieties may contain Hydrogen Cyanide, which is poisonous.

Sauropus androgynus, also known as katuk, star gooseberry, or sweet leaf, is a shrub grown in some tropical regions as a leaf vegetable.
In August, 1995, there was an outbreak in Taiwan of rapidly progressive respiratory distress associated with consumption of uncooked Sauropus androgynus, a vegetable with a claimed yet unconfirmed effect on weight control. We report on 23 patients with strikingly similar clinical presentations.

It is used to treat conditions such as asthma, coughs and pulmonary diseases; dyspepsia, diarrhoea and dysentery; oedema; urethral discharges and venereal diseases. A decoction is used to treat fungal skin diseases.

The roots are diuretic, febrifuge and tonic. They are used fresh to arrest vomiting. Either pounded or in decoction, they are also used as a remedy for leucorrhoea, anaemia, cough, malaria and as a tonic during parturition.

Papaya Leaf Extract for Dengue

Guidelines in using carica papaya leaf extract for Dengue fever patients

1.In anyone suffering from fever, headache or body pain, it is advisable to do Dengue NS1 antigen test as early as possible.

2.If the Dengue NS1 antigen test is positive, it is very likely that you are suffering from Dengue fever.

3.When you are diagnosed with Dengue fever you should immediately get treatment from an allopathic doctor. Papaya leaf extract should be used in addition to the usual Dengue management.

4.Papaya leaf extract could be given at any stage of the disease. But for best results it should be given from the first day of fever.

5.Papaya leaf extracts could be taken as syrup; 30ml three times a day before meals for an adult and 5-10ml three times a day for a child until you have fully recovered from the illness. It is advised not to stop the treatment halfway.

6.A few sips of cold water could be taken immediately after the Papaya leaf extract, to overcome the bitter taste.

7.Do not take Papaya leaf extract if you are allergic to Papaya.

8.Method of preparation

•Get fresh healthy mature papaya leaves from a fruit-bearing tree.
•Wash the leaves thoroughly with running tap water and chop the leaves in to small pieces excluding the main stem (not necessary to remove the small stems in the leaves).
•Weigh 50g of papaya leaves and put it into a mortar and pestle.
•Add 50ml of boiled cool water and 25g of sugar.
•Pound the above mixture well for 15 minutes till a uniform pulp is made.
•Mix this pulp well and keep for about 30 minutes.
•Squeeze this pulp by hand and get the papaya leaf extract (do not use a cotton sieve to extract the juice).
•You can store this preparation for 24 hours in the lower compartment of the refrigerator (+4 oC)
•Shake the bottle well before the preparation is given.

Using Molasses for Your Garden

This is a quick overview how I use my molasses. The molassre agricultural grade, which are use to feed livestocks, therefore are safe to use in our organic garden.

Use is as foliar spray or direct drench unto the soil.

1. Direct Molasses Foliar Spray or Root Drench.

Blackstrap molasses is high in calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium. It also contains sulfur and a host of micronutrients. Using molasses as fertilizer provides plants with a quick source of energy and encourages the growth of beneficial microorganisms.

The second way molasses controls insects, is by being directly ingested by the insect.  What most people don’t know is that only Sugar Ants and bees can easily process the simplest sugars. Insects have no way of expelling the gas that builds up from fermenting sugar and the vegetation in their gut. Plus, they have exoskeletons and can't get bloated. Their delicate internal organs are crushed from the inside out.

2. Cultivate EM. (Re-Cultivate EM1)

Effective Microorganisms (EM) are mixed cultures of beneficial naturally-occurring organisms that can be applied as inoculants to increase the microbial diversity of soil ecosystem. They consist mainly of the photosynthesizing bacteria, lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, actinomycetes and fermenting fungi.

You can dilute EM1 with un-chorinated water to spray or drench your plants. EM1 can further be process to make EM2. Example, EM1 + Water + Flours to make Bokashi Starter.

3. Fermenting Fruit Peel Enzyme.

This is basically fermented fruit and vegetable peels. It can be used to save a lot of money on detergents, can keep your home drains clear, and can fertilize your garden and kill pests.

Add EM1, Molasses and Un-chlorinated water into the bucket of fruit peels, cover it and let them ferment. After 2 weeks, it is ready to use.

4. Cultivate Bacillus ssp.
If you Google Bacillus ssp for plant growth you can see tons of info from plant health, root growth to drought tolerance benefits.

My was given by a friend who own a Musang King Orchard which he and his peers are using this widely in their orchard.

Am using molasses and rain water to cultivate them in the anaerobic environment.

5. Brewing Worm Tea.

"A primary reason for producing a compost tea is to transfer microbial biomass, fine particulate organic matter, and soluble chemical components of compost into a solution that can be applied to plant surfaces and soils in ways not possible or economically feasible with solid compost."[USDA Compost Tea Task Force Report, April 2004]

While a compost extraction can be made by simply stirring, it's made even better if continuous oxygen is incorporated into this "compost broth" which can increase the original numbers of microbes into the billions. This is known as AACT or actively aerated compost tea.In this case, worm tea.

The above statement says it all.

How I make it, Wormcasting + Molasses + Mountain Water/Rain Water + Aeriation for 48 hours

6. Others (Which I have yet to start)
Excellent for making fish, seaweed etc amino acid foliar spray. Also as ground cover. Or speeding up breakdown of animal manures /composting.
